Dr. Charles Shih, President and CEO, AndroScience Corporation, San Diego, USA.

Dr. Shih is currently President, CEO, and a member of the Board of AndroScience Corp.. Dr. Shih co-founded AndroScience in June 2000 after raising 2 million dollars from private sectors (see story in SignOnSanDiego). AndroScience focuses on developing novel modulators of androgen functions. These modulators could potentially be used to treat androgen-related diseases such as acne, alopecia, prostate cancer and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).

Dr. Shih was formerly Vice President of Research and Development and Vice President of Immunology at BD-PharMingen, San Diego, CA. Before Becton-Dickinson (BD) acquired PharMingen in 1998, Dr. Shih was the Vice President of Immunology. He played an important role in PharMingen's successful commercial development that resulted in the acquisition by BD. Prior to joining PharMingen, Dr. Shih was Assistant Professor at the Department of Pediatrics, Medical College of Wisconsin, where he was also a full Member of the Cancer Center. In addition to his commercial achievement, Dr. Shih is also prolific in scientific publication. He has published more than 60 scientific papers in immunology and cancer research.
